David Strettle: 'Who's getting the beers in then?'

David Strettle delivered Martin Johnson a firm message after being overlooked for England’s 32-man Elite squad by powering Harlequins to Middlesex Sevens glory.

A star-studded Harlequins won their first title for 18 years with England duo Strettle and Mike Brown both catching the eye, proving the short journey across the A316 was clearly worth the trouble.

After trouncing Leeds Carnegie in the opening round, the boys from the Stoop swept past the Sale Sharks to set up a semi-final tie with holders Newcastle.

Strettle’s double ensured a new name would be on the trophy as the Falcons fell at the penultimate hurdle.

On the other side of the draw, the British Army, packed with a plethora of South Sea Islanders, breezed past the Leicester Tigers in the last-eight after getting off to a sluggish start against eventual Plate winners, Saracens.

Electric Fijian talent Apolesi Satala bagged a brace against a bedazzled Tigers outfit in the last eight before four scores saw off a youthful Gloucester side in the semi-finals.

So the stage was set for a showcase of final flair and the colourful Twickenham crowd would not be disappointed.

Despite a narrow two point deficit at the break, Harlequins conserved enough energy with England full-back Brown touching down for his second try of the match and the day’s MVP, Strettle seizing victory for a 14th time and their first Russell Cargill Cup since 1990.

Bradley Barritt: 'I don't have to room with Hugh Vyvyan do I?'

Saracens boss Eddie Jones has used his knowledge of South Africa's hot bed of talent by signing 22-year-old Sharks centre Bradley Barritt on a three-year-deal.

After switching from fly-half, his outstanding performances earned him a spot in the full Springboks squad.

Barritt becomes Saracens fourth major signing after the arrivals of Wikkus van Heerden, Michael Owen and England lock Steve Borthwick.

Dwayne Chambers: 'Maybe I should go in the BB House'

There's a whisper going around that Dwayne Chambers has been entrusted with improving three Harlequins and England stars sprinting.

We tipped him to enter the world of golf after dipping his toe into every other sport. Chambers is commanding as many column inches as Big Brother and undoubtedly keeping his PR team busy.

Junior speedsters David Strettle, Danny Care and the more tractor-esque, Nick Easter will undergo intensive sessions with Britain's fastest man.

Seru Rabeni: '14 weeks is 88 days isn't it'

Leicester Tigers clearly don't give maths lessons at Welford Road as star centre Seru Rabeni has copped another ban from the RFU for skipping his first suspension by a matter of days.

The Fijian monster had already sat out 14-weeks for making illegal contact with Saracens hooker, Andy Kyriacou, but will now spend another nine weeks on the sidelines beginning on the 15th August.

He will miss the Tigers opening seven matches of the season, including the crucial Heineken Cup kick-off against the Ospreys.
